The department has invited Davide Piperno, an expert with 30 years’ experience in the field of designing products for the elderly, to address the seminar.

Patama Singhara Na Ayudhaya, director of the Thai Trade Centre, Rome, stated that DITP’s elderly care product market plan for 2015-2018 will focus on providing information and advice to health care product manufacturers, as well as helping them penetrate major markets such as Japan and the EU with a one-stop service.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) took the opportunity of the Thai Teaw Thai (Thai Travels within Thailand) Expo to reassure tourism professionals of the bright future lying ahead for their industry in Thailand.

“Thailand has faced many tourism crises over the past 50 years, including the Gulf War, SARS Outbreak and many of the world’s financial crises,” said Banyong Pongpanich, chief executive officer of Kiatnakin Bank and noted business columnist at the seminar held on June 8 at the IMPACT Arena, Bangkok. “At this time, we must think of the English phrase BAU – business as usual.”

The number of tourists in Thailand has risen dramatically from 8.5 million in 2004 to 26 million in 2013, an all-time high despite the political unrest at the end of the year. The temporary military curfew imposed on the country earlier this year has now been lifted completely.

The Thai Office of Commercial Affairs in London organised the Taste of Thailand as part of the UK’s biggest international food festival – Taste of London 2014 – from June 18 to 22 in London’s Regent’s Park. This is the third consecutive year that Thailand has been invited as a Featured Country.

“There will be 16 booths featuring raw ingredients, seasonings, ready-to-eat meals, beverages, and more,” Chulit Stavorn, minister (Commercial) for the Royal Thai Embassy (London) said prior to the event. “This is a great opportunity for Thai exporters to present Thai food products to international foodies and to build up the taste in Thai food for foreign consumers.”

The event featured Thai street food as well as delights from London-based Thai SELECT restaurants, as well as a Singha Beer bar, Thai Spa, cookery demonstrations and Thai classical dance performances.

In 2013, Thailand’s food exports to the UK amounted to some U$1 billion. In the first four months of 2014, food exports to the EU reached U$315 million, a 12.6% increase compared with the same period in 2013.
