Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn met Turkey’s Economic Minister Nihat Zeybekci in Turkey on July 19 to mark the start of negotiations on the free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries.

“In the first phase, we aim to cut import tariffs on 100% of goods traded between Thailand and Turkey, which will cover more than 10,000 items. After that, we will start negotiating for the liberalisation of the service sector,” Tantraporn said.

According to the Commerce Minister, trade value between the two countries was US$1.2 billion in 2016 with a trade surplus of US$745 for Thailand.
