The South Korean government has decided to import Thai eggs to help ease a domestic shortage caused by the country’s bird flu outbreak, DITP General-Director Malee Choklumlerd said on June 21.

“It is the first time for South Korea to import eggs from ASEAN countries. South Korea plans to import around 2-2.3 million eggs per week from Thailand,” Choklumlerd said.

Potential Thai egg exporters are encouraged to register with Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development before for consideration. Currently, two Thai companies are allowed to export eggs to South Korea and the country needs more imported eggs.
