The DITP office in Vancouver hosted Thailand Riceberry Rice Tasting Week in Canada from May 15 to 21 to promote riceberry rice in the country.

More than 30 food experts and media attended the event and tasted riceberry rice-based food and desserts. The event also received positive response from Canadian consumers.

DITP General-Director Malee Choklumlerd said, “Canada is a potential market for Thai food products because consumers have a high purchasing power and there are a lot of Asian people living in this country. Canadians are ready to try and embrace new things.”

“Currently, Canada imports rice from many countries and it is quite difficult for consumers to understand the difference between each rice type. Thai rice producers and exporters should educate consumers how Thai rice is different from others and promote value-added products such as riceberry rice in the market.”

Riceberry is a new rice variety from Thailand that is rich in many antioxidants that help consumers stay healthy.
