Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak accompanying by Deputy Commerce Minister Suvit Maesincee, government officials and selected businesspeople paid an official trip to China from June 26 to 30.

“It is a good time for Chinese investors to expand their investment and business to ASEAN countries, using Thailand as the main gateway to the region,” Jatusripitak told 500 investors at an investment conference entitled ‘Thailand: Moving Forward to Sustainable Growth’ held on June 27 in Shanghai.

The event emphasised investment opportunities in Thailand, especially in information and communication technology (ICT), automobiles, electronics, tourism, telecommunications equipment and machinery.

According to official statistics, the Thai government approved 172 Chinese investment projects worth 85.2 billion baht between 2010 and 2014. The top investment areas were machinery, automobiles, solar cells and car assembly.
