The DITP hosted a seminar on the halal market in ASEAN at the One Stop Export Service Centre OSEC Clinic 2016 on May 26 at the Emerald Hotel, Bangkok.

DITP Assistant Director-General Matyawongse Amatyakul said that Thai businesses have to understand the rules and regulations governing the international accreditation of halal goods, as well as customer behaviour, in order to provide quality halal products.

Data from the DITP reveals that Thailand exported US$6 billion of halal foods to Organisation of Islamic Conference countries in 2014, a rise of 12.5% on the previous year. Major exports include rice, sugar, and processed and canned seafood.
