The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Somkid Jatusripitak, along with delegates from government agencies and the private sector visited Sri Lanka from March 8 to 12, aiming to enhance cooperation on trade, investment and tourism between the two countries.

Minister of Commerce, Apiradi Tantraporn, said that 14 Thai companies including the Sahapat Group, the Charoen Pokphand Group, Thai Beverage plc and Italian-Thai Development plc, as well as 14 major Sri Lankan businesses attended business matching activities, which resulted in immediate transactions of US$972,000 (36 million baht), and US$12 million (444 million baht) in potential sales over a one-year period.

“Sri Lanka is a high potential export market for Thai products including processed food, medicine, skincare products, air conditioners, water pumps, motorcycle chains and gas cylinders. They also need assistance from Thailand in several sectors such as agriculture, tourism, banking, construction and infrastructure,” said Tantraporn.
