Thailand and Malaysia expressed their readiness to promote closer cooperation on trade and investment. At a seminar on ‘Business Opportunities in Malaysia and Thailand’ held at the Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok on March 2, Atchaka Sibunruang, Minister of Industry, said, “We want to see more Malaysian investment in Thailand, especially in the automotive parts and electronics industries.”

The minister added that the two countries should jointly develop the halal and rubber sectors; a sentiment endorsed by her Malaysian counterpart.

Malaysia’s International Trade and Industry Minister, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, encouraged Thai investors to invest in the halal industry in Malaysia to benefit from the government’s support, marketing expertise and knowledge of Muslim-based regulations, in order to penetrate the global halal market more effectively.

The halal industry in Malaysia attracted investment worth US$2.6 billion in 2015, according to Malaysia’s official data.
