Several foreign automotive companies including Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Ford, Audi, BMW, Porsche and Rolls Royce have opened showrooms in Cambodia to serve the rising demand for new cars in the country, while many Cambodians with a lower purchasing power still prefer the cheaper used-car market.

“Thai businesses can invest in exporting replacement equipment to Cambodia or offering car and motorcycle maintenance services because these businesses will grow alongside the rising automotive industry,” Jiranun Wongmongkol, the Minister Counsellor (Commercial) in Phnom Penh, said on March 2.

According to the Cambodia Automotive Industry Federation, Cambodia imported more than 55,000 new and used cars last year, 10% more than in 2014. Used cars represented more than 30% of the total imported cars.
