The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Somkid Jatusripitak, and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Prawit Wongsuwan, visited Russia and Belarus from February 22 to 27, to strengthen economic cooperation and explore trade and investment with Russia and the CIS countries.

According to DITP Director-General Malee Choklumlerd, the department brought more than 80 Thai companies from several industries including food, medical equipment, rubber, fashion, automotive parts and construction materials to Russia to attend business matching activities and expand trade and investment networking with large Russian companies. The government expects trade between the two countries to reach US$10 billion in 2016.

“Now, Russia considers ASEAN countries as some of its key food suppliers, Russia wants to import many food products such as chicken, pork and agricultural products. Thailand and Russia has also discussed exporting rubber and rice to Russia,” Choklumlerd said.
