DITP Director General Malee Choklumlerd urged Thai companies to look towards the LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender) in the US on December 28.

According to Choklumlerd, LGBT consumers have three times the purchasing power of the Hispanic community and twice that of Asians in the US.

“The LGBT group has no concerns about money as they do not have to save up for children’s education so they can afford expensive products and services,” says Kittinand Yingcharoen, director of the Office of Commercial Affairs in Miami, adding that this provides a good opportunity for Thai businesses wishing to penetrate the US market.

Trade between Thailand and the US from January to October 2015 was valued at US$32.1 billion, with computer parts, rubber products, gems and jewellery, apparel and seafood being the most exported products.
