DITP Director-General Malee Choklumlerd stated that in October 2015, the department had cooperated with The Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association (HIDA) of Japan and Japan Fashion Week (JFW) to bring Thai businesspeople to join a workshop about conducting fashion business in Japan.

The workshop also provided knowledge to Thai businessmen about the fashion, the design and market trends from the experts.

“Though Japanese customers are very much interested in our design, Thai companies still need to improve more in terms of material quality and design to really match the customers’ needs, which is very unique and specific,” said Choklumlerd.

In the first nine months of this year, Thailand received over US$1.9 billion from textile exports. The US, Japan, Germany, France, Belgium, the UK and Hong Kong are the main export markets. Japan, the second largest export market, generated over US$290 million worth of sales alone.
