The Thai government and private sector will join together to hold the 56th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair at the IMPACT Arena, Muang Thong Thani from September 10 to 14.

“The DITP has been supporting entrepreneurs in the gem and jewelry industry in many ways, such as holding seminars,” said DITP Deputy Director-General Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat. “We’re looking into niche markets that have purchasing power for Thai gems and jewelry. Also, we’re cooperating with neighbouring countries like Myanmar in terms of raw materials.”

Thai gem and jewelry exports between January and June 2015 totalled over 147 billion baht, with the total value of exports for 2015 expected to top 300 billion baht.

“The champion products from Thailand are polished gemstones and silver jewelry,” said Somchai Phornchindarak, president of the Gem Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand. “For the first time, we are holding jewelry auctions worth billions of baht at the fair.”
