The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) said in a joint statement with the Thai Tourism and Sports Ministry on 26 August that it is confident that tourism in Thailand will remain strong, despite recent incidents.

“Tourism in Thailand will rebound during the high season as Thailand has some of the world’s most beautiful attractions that have captivated millions of tourists for many years,” said Carlos Vogeler, director – executive secretary of Member Relations of UNWTO.

“Other nations are perceptive and understanding of the situation in Thailand. Assistance and remedial measures taken by both the public and private sectors have been impressive,” added David Scowsill, president and CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council. “Thailand is still regarded as a prime tourist destination.”

Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul announced that 200 business enterprises and 30 media representatives from Thailand would participate in a roadshow in Chengdu Province, China on September 2 and 3, in order to boost tourism. The roadshow, held in collaboration with China’s National Tourism Administration, aims to showcase popular tourist destinations within Thailand and to renew confidence in the tourism sector.
