The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has set a revenue target of two trillion baht for the tourism sector in 2016.

On August 4, TAT’s Deputy Governor for International Marketing Juthaporn Rerngronasa declared tourism revenue during the first half of 2015 to be a success and praised government efforts to focus on tourism this year and promote the Discover Thainess campaign.

Launched last year, the campaign aims at promoting tourism activities and overseas marketing operations. The campaign attracted 12.48 million tourists in the first five months, a growth of 25% on the same period last year, and generated 592 billion baht in revenue. According to Rerngronasa, 65% of the tourists are from Asia and 25% from Europe.

TAT expects to generate about 2.33 trillion baht in tourism revenue in 2016 by attracting middle-income tourists through activities that encourage consumer spending. In order to achieve the target, TAT will hold roadshows in Malaysia, Singapore, the UK, France and China.
