The DITP is targeting exports of Halal food from Thailand to the Middle East to cater for high demand, DITP Director-General Nuntawan Sakuntanaga announced on June 26.

“Research has revealed that consumers are looking for products with attractive packaging and have both Arabic and English labels,” said Sakuntanaga. “Products must also be FDA, GMP, HACCP and Halal certified. Dubai is the main market in this region.”

Sakuntanaga urged Thai exporters to conduct studies to ensure that products comply with local requirements and regulations.

“Three product categories that Thailand will be promoting are: plastic products and plastic housewares which is expected to grow by 30% due to the growing economy; beverages which is expected to grow by 5% due to urbanisation and the higher purchasing power of the middle class; and construction materials which is expected to grow by 10% as the construction industry is in great demand,” said DITP Director-General Nuntawan Sakuntanaga.

In addition, DITP has plans to increase activities in the Boten-Bohan border economic zone to further promote trade from Thailand to the Chinese border.
