DITP Director-General Nuntawan Sakuntanaga has urged Thai businesses to focus on the German senior market. A report by the International Trade Promotion’s Frankfurt office stated that Germany has 17 million senior citizens – the second highest in the world – and this figure is expected to reach 24 million by 2035.

“In order to tap into the ageing consumer market, the DITP plans to showcase Thai products at DIE 66, the biggest elderly products exhibition event in Germany,” said Sakuntanaga. “The department has also plans to set up a specific zone for elderly products and services in events held in Thailand, namely THAIFEX and BIG+BIH.”

Sujitra Tanomsup, the Director of the International Trade Promotion Office in Frankfurt, added that elderly consumers prefer products with distinctive designs that were not clearly recognisable as elderly products. “To increase consumers’ interest, a close and deep understanding of their physical and mental conditions is important,” she said.
