The DITP recently carried out the second ‘Product Champions: Potential Development of Silver Jewelry Products and Markets Project’ aimed at encouraging the industry’s SME operators to develop their products and expand their customer base.

“There are 15,000 operators in Thailand’s gems and jewellery industry, with 90% being SMEs,” said DITP Deputy Director-General Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat. “We would like to support these operators to grow, despite fierce competition in the world market.”

Vivatrat added that Thai gems and jewellery exports in 2014 amounted to just over US$10 billion. Diamonds, colour stones, silver jewellery and fashion jewelry proved particularly popular. Twenty entrepreneurs who joined the second edition of the project participated in a marketing and product development workshop with Carlin International. Their products were showcased at the 55th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair at Bangkok’s IMPACT Arena.
