The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) has revealed that 13 South Korean companies led by the ASEAN-Korea Centre have shown an interest in investing in the country’s alternative energy sector.

“Apart from alternative energy, investors have also shown an interest in alternative energy-related products, which conform to the policies of the government and the BOI to stimulate investment in the alternative energy sector,” BOI acting secretary-general Hiranya Sujinai said during a seminar on Thailand’s Investment Opportunity on Alternative Energy held in Seoul late January.

In 2014, South Korean companies invested over 31 billion baht in 63 projects in Thailand, an increase of 3.6 % compared with 2013. Most of them were electrical and electronics industries. South Korea also invested around 1.5 billion baht in solid-waste power generation and another 540 million baht in wind power.
