Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, the director general of The DITP, recently released trade figures with Japan’s Kanzai, Chubu and Shikoku provinces for the first half of 2014.

Up until June, Thailand’s exports to Japanese provinces amounted to US$671 million, 5.4% higher than the same period in 2013. Automobile and auto part exports increased by 27.8%, raw materials by 26.9%, chemicals by 16%, electronic appliances by 11.2%, machines by 11.2% and tools by 5.5%.Sakuntanaga added that she expected trade to be even better in the second half of 2014.

Suphan Saquandeekul, the director of Thai Trade Center, Osaka, Japan says that Universal Studio Japan’s new Harry Potter zone would help the economy in the Kanzai region in the latter half of 2014, attracting an additional two million visitors. Overall economic growth in the Kanzai region is expected to top US$539 billion. This will help Thailand’s exports to Japan, due to the higher demand in the region.
