The Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment, and of the Interior, the Federation of Thai Industries, the Thai Society of Environmental Journalists and Unilever Thailand organised a seminar to discuss the current waste disposal situation in the Kingdom. Entitled Thailand's Waste Crisis: Partnership for Sustainable Solutions, it was held on August 18 at St. Regis Hotel,
Bangkok.

The aim of the roundtable seminar was to find cooperative solutions for sustainable and efficient waste disposal towards the goal of reducing waste in Thailand.

Bauke Rouwers, a speaker of the seminar, said that Unilever’s twin success in reducing non-hazardous waste to zero-tonnage and reducing the use of plastic to 17,000 tonnes a year are examples of the private sector’s efforts to counter the waste crisis.

“As Thailand's economy has been growing very fast in the past five decades, it is inevitable that more waste and pollution also occur,” he said. “In order to pass on the beautiful Thailand to the children of the next generation, truly efficient waste management is the priority.”
