As the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) approaches, many companies are looking towards it to improve their export business. KRS Spicy Food is one such company.

Founded in 1977 by Napaporn Jindavaranon, KRS Spicy Food promises to deliver the finest quality Thai curry paste and authentic Thai sweet chilli sauce.

KRS was certified with the Fair Trade Standard in 2012, and was the first company in Thailand and Southeast Asia to produce Fair Trade Thai curry paste and Thai dipping sauce. Now the company is looking to expand its products and services not only locally but internally as well.

“It all started as a small business by my mother with one factory producing Thai sweet chilli sauce, and later [we] expanded the product items, which now includes curry paste, dipping and cooking sauces,” says Panyapon Jindavaranon, general manager of KRS.
Currently 88% of KRS sales is overseas, according to Jindavaranon. “We first started exporting to Sweden in 2005,” he says. “Apart from producing under our own brand, we also provide OEM services to clients all over the world including Germany, Belgium, the UK, the US, Japan, Taiwan, France, Australia, Israel and Canada.”

Both KRS’ factories have been awarded OTOP, GMP and HACCP certifications, says Jindavaranon.

“The factories have also received International Food Standard IPS and Halal certification,” he adds. “We now employ over 300 employees and we are certainly looking forward to expanding our production.

“Our factories are equipped with all the latest production facilities. In 2003, we installed a bottling facility, which was certified by the British Retailer Consortium (BRC) and International Food Standard (IFS).”

Business has increased constantly.

“In 2014 we generated over 335 million baht, an increase from 250 million baht in 2013,” he says. “This year, we expect to generate 400 million baht.”

Jindavaranon credits the company’s success to food safety, and the consistency of both the quality of its service and its products. “Ensuring customers’ satisfaction is our promise,” he says. “All products are free of preservatives, MSG, and artificial colours and flavours.”

For 2015-2016, KRS will focus on manufacturing ready-to-eat meals and low-acid food, while continuing with research and development of its existing products. “In the past we have done more for OEM but now we plan to promote our own brand to markets,” he adds.

Jindavaranon also believes the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) at the end of 2015 will provide many opportunities, specifically as regards the ease of transporting products and sourcing both labour and resources. “Expanding into ASEAN markets will be a lot easier,” he says.
